The fabrication process uses a newly developed continuous transfer printing process in conjunction with industrial ink jet printers to quickly fabricate electronic assemblies. The printed electronics technology provides thermal expansion and heat conduction such that integrated circuits can be placed within an assembly easily accommodating multi-layer stacking of circuits. Nearly all-passive components are replaced with printed devices, about 1/10th the cost, smaller in size, without component bodies. Resistors are fabricated from specialty resistive inks or etched resistive foil layers. Capacitors are fabricated from various polymer or hybrid polymer-ceramic or polymer-polymer dielectrics. The capacitor structures are fully-self-healing with energy densities up to 300J/cc, nearly the same as conventional battery technology. The ultra-capacitor batteries can be incorporated as part of the electronics assembly, are self-healing with nearly unlimited life and recharge time of a few seconds. The capacitors are specifically fabricated to suit their application. Electronic devices fabricated using this technology will be up to 30% lower in cost and 1/4 the size of devices using printed circuit board technology. The process can fabricated a 20 interconnection layers into a 1 mil thickness (25 micron) versus 60 mil (1500 micron) for conventional circuit board technology.
